Other Doritos Unidentified Flavours
Doritos has had a number of Unidentified Flavours in the past, and held competitions among consumers to decide what the flavour is. In 2007, Doritos introduced a campaign named "Doritos X-13D Flavour Experiment", in which, bags of Doritos were labelled as unidentified. Consumers had the task of identifying and naming the flavour. The only clue on the bags was the "All American Classic" identification. Later, the flavour was classified as "Cheeseburger".
Doritos introduced a "Mystery Flavour" Quest in 2008. Prizes were being
awarded as puzzles related to the mystery were solved by consumers.
It was later discovered that the flavour was "Mountain Dew".
Two new flavours were released in 2009 under the label "Doritos Late
Night". The flavours were named "Last Call Jalapeno Popper" and "Tacos
at Midnight". The X-13D unidentified flavour (identified as "Cheeseburger")
was re-released under the name "All Nighter Cheeseburger".
In Canada, during the Super Bowl XLIII, Doritos broadcasted a "Chip Hat" commercial, which advertised a new Unidentified Flavour and offered a prize of CDN $25,000 + 1% of all associated sales to a person who could name the unidentified flavour, and also create an advertisement for the flavour. The winner was Ryan Coopersmith of Montreal, with the winning name "Scream Cheese" - or "Fromage Fracassant" in French (Refer to the link on the left sidebar for Doritos Guru.)
